Juan Burgos - Nuestro Amor
December 10, 2009Juan Burgos expands the urban apocalyptic events of inattentive daily life. His inspiration is an innocent children’s storybook, out of which emerges a delirious collage. (read more) via we make money not art

Pixel Mosaics by Megumi Naitoh
October 26, 2009Megumi Naitoh: In our contemporary world, mosaics are not just ceramics, stone, and glass, they are also digital. In some respects, the meaning of mosaic has changed over time. Mosaic used to be a technique to reveal design and imagery, yet the idea of the digital mosaic in contemporary society is used almost in an opposite manner. It is used to obscure nudity, obscene gesture or identity.

Ronald The Butcher Boy by Max Papeschi
October 18, 2009I think that many of my works can be described as an advertising campaign coming from possible parallel realities. They’re conceived as actual advertisements, just without the claim of a product, slogans, and of course the pay I would receive upon completion. What they sell is rather the real value upon which our society is based, without any sort of lie or hypocrisy hidden within them. (Read more)

Last Drawing Before Mars by Tal R
August 5, 2009Tal R’s Last Drawing Before Mars is a collage of supernova proportions. Bursting with the graphics of primitive special effects, Tal R makes a painting-cum-time machine. Hundreds of tiny clipped figures and consumer ephemera are conjoined in the unifying rays: a Nazi soldier to a gay porn star, a cartoon cat to a chintz lamp. People with no heads or wrong heads and others with skulls merge seamlessly with ugly furniture, sock puppets, tribal sculptures and status-symbol splendour. (via)

Achooo Mr. Kerrooschev by Stan Vanderbeek
July 29, 2009Stan Vanderbeek (January 6, 1927 - September 19, 1984) was an American experimental filmmaker.
Vanderbeek’s career spanned about a third of a century, a period of almost constant creativity with extraordinary amalgamations of media. As such, it is a difficult career to summarize, especially in light of the fact that no definitive list of his truly countless productions seems to exist. Vanderbeek appeared to exude creations at a rate that escaped even his own cataloguing.
you can find a number of Stan Vanderbeek’s videos on TheMotionBrigades youtube channel.

Collage Suits by Brian Bress
June 30, 2009Q: ”Somewhere along the line we’re supposed to figure out that one medium can’t do another’s chores. For instance, a written artist statement can’t stand in for a performative song and dance number. And yet the attempt, however clumsily made or especially if it’s clumsily made can be better than if everything played its assigned role, spoke it’s own language, did what it was best at doing.
Everyone: Arms up, Kick and Kick and Kick, together now, spin around” (via)

Anarch by Joseph Mills
June 29, 2009Browse three beautiful exhibitions by Joseph Mills:
Anarch. The Loves of the Poets. Inner City.
“From surreal photocollage imaginings of a world gone wrong to documentary street scenes, Joseph Mills’ images and pictorial objects of the last twenty-five years alternate between shock and pathos, between black humor and existential dread.”

Discovering Christian Marclay
June 29, 2009Let me introduce one of my favourite contempory artist, Christian Marclay :
Marclay’s work explores connections between sound, photography, video, and film. A pioneer of using gramaphone records and turntables as musical instruments to create sound collage, Marclay is, in the words of critic Thom Jurek, perhaps the “unwitting inventor of turntablism.”[1] His own use of turntables and records, beginning in the mid-1970s, was developed independently of but roughly parallel to hip hop’s use of the instrument. - wikipedia
Here a little overview documentary, Marclay discusses his interest in unwanted sound, his use of turntables, early examples of his art and more recent pieces too.
If you have a chance to catch a Marclay’s exhibition,… go !

What is collaboration / mashup1
June 22, 2009i have started to do some mashups, out of our collaboration - contributions, to start playing with the ideas that are already in.
i’ve continued Serbé’s associations of execution in some very rough collages using Benoit’s, Serbé’s and my images, plus old execution-photos found on the web.
