Félicien Rops (7 July 1833 - 23 August 1898) was a Belgian artist, and printmaker in etching and aquatint.

Aubrey Vincent Beardsley 1872 – 1898, was an English illustrator and author. His drawings are characterized by an erotic nature, and his most erotic illustrations are those found in the Lysistrata; Beardsley drew these for a privately printed edition.

Beardsley later converted to Catholicism, and would subsequently beg his publisher to destroy all copies of Lysistrata and bad drawings…by all that is holy all obscene drawings.

The Yellow Book, an illustrated quarterly 1894

The Yellow Book was the brain-child of Beardsley even down to its title. Novels by the French decadent writer were often issued in yellow wrappers; the most important of the novels was J.K. Huysmans’ A Rebours, 1883. Beardsley proposed a new illustrated quarterly dedicated to modern literature and art because many brilliant story painters and picture writers cannot get their best stuff accepted in the conventional magazines, either because they are not topical, or perhaps a little risquÇ. The Yellow Book published some of the best authors and artists of the Nineties, often causing scandals to the conservative public. (via)

He admits to being a sculptor but shuns any closer definition. “I make things,” he says prosaically. This mock humility belies a strong and, some would say eccentric, character with a definite je ne sais quoi. Jamie is a maverick, a polymath, and a self-confessed enfant terrible. Robert Gligorov was born in 1959 in Kriva Palanca, Macedonia. He lives and works in Milan, Italy.
Gligorov’s work attempts to shock the viewer. Confronting a society accustomed to sophisticated and extreme forms of visual communication, Gligorov amplifies the shock value of his work in order to compete with the deluge of images that cloud our visual field.

David Cooper published several graphic novels at Fantagraphics. He also works as a commercial illustrator and a designer, creator and producer in the field of animation. Dave Cooper gradually became more known as a fine art oil painter, and some of his work was collected in the books ‘Underbelly’ and ‘Overbite’.

Tal R’s Last Drawing Before Mars is a collage of supernova proportions. Bursting with the graphics of primitive special effects, Tal R makes a painting-cum-time machine. Hundreds of tiny clipped figures and consumer ephemera are conjoined in the unifying rays: a Nazi soldier to a gay porn star, a cartoon cat to a chintz lamp. People with no heads or wrong heads and others with skulls merge seamlessly with ugly furniture, sock puppets, tribal sculptures and status-symbol splendour. (via)

Marrie Bot was born in 1946 in Bergambacht and began her training as a graphic designer. In 1973 she took evening classes in drawing and photography at the Free Academy in The Hague. She learned documentary photography primarily through practical experience. Since 1976 Marrie Bot has been principally involved with freelance photography, choosing her own subjects. Her photos stem from a personal involvement with the photographed situations, in which people usually play the main role. (via)
